Family and professional caregivers will find ongoing support and leave the workshop with the following:

  • A better understanding of dementia, how it progresses, and available treatments
  • Care strategies proven to work for those living with Alzheimer’s and related dementias
  • Tips to help caregivers take better care of themselves

Melanie Bunn is founder of Bunn Consulting; Dementia Training Specialist for Alzheimers North Carolina, trainer with Positive Approach to Care and faculty/consultant/clinician on four Duke School of Nursing federal grants. She is a skilled and experienced nurse, having provided care for older people in a variety of settings; including, retirement homes, nursing and assisted living facilities, hospitals and in-home as a gerontological nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist and staff nurse.

She gives over 200 engaging and interactive presentations annually to health professionals, community organizations, families and other groups interested in addressing issues of the care and needs of people living with dementia and their families. Melanie believes that the best way to improve lives of people with dementia, their families and their caregivers is through the combination of education and support for everyone in our communities.
